Cameo Brooch And Bracelet (Italy)
This is a Cameo brooch and bracelet. It is dated early 19th century and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is carved shells, gold, cut velvet. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The gods and goddesses carved into these shell cameos are (from left to right): Cupid and Psyche, Apollo and Diana, Minerva and Mercury, Jupiter and Juno, Proserpina and Pluta, Venus and Mars, and personifications of Night and Day ("A Royal Gift: The 1826 Porcelain Jewel Cabinet," May 17, 1994 - January 22, 1995).
